Bali surf photography

This is a great week for Bali surf photography! I was combing the internets as I often do in search of stories on surfing or surf-related interests and I stumbled upon one of my great interest: photography.

First off, check out this gallery of photography by Aloha Surf Journal in the Huffington Post. Aloha Surf Journal is a blog run by two French photographers, Nora Lemoal and Benjamin Fabre. Make sure you check it out. They’ve got tons of incredible shots, plus they’re good people, donating 10% of their sales of their photos to the eco-surf group Surfrider Foundation Europe. The Huff Post article shows cultural, surf, and nature photography from Lemoal and Fabre, mainly taken on the Indonesian islands of Bali, Lombok and Java.

At the first moment we landed in Indonesia we knew that the return to France would be really hard. Indonesia is an amazing country full of colors, good energies, stunning landscape and great waves everywhere. The culture there is so interesting and people are so nice.

A bit of Bali surf photography also crept into the photography section of the Los Angeles Times. Actually, I’m cheating – there’s a pic of Bali and a pic of big wave surfers in Portugal. Sue me. Check out the latest “Week in Pictures” (ending November 3rd) here.

For those interested in a bit more of a local or DIY flavor check out the Bali Surf Photography Facebook page. Also have a look at this Baliwaves gallery from the 19th-22nd of February, featuring some rad local surfers ripping it up under overcast skies (I love overcast conditions for shooting).

It would be remiss to not include at least one good example of Bali surf photography (and by another French photographer) in this very blog post. So here it goes: Paul Bocquet at Uluwatu by Nicolas Risch.
