Melbourne Cup fever

Today the camp awoke with cup fever! That’s right, today in Australia it is the annual ‘race that stops a nation’ Melbourne Cup. Most clients were unfamiliar with the event but Kingy was happy to fill them in on the Australian tradition. Big on his betting Kingy has been studying the horses and races for the past few months and has been waiting for this day for a while. With the swell still quite small and no advanced surfers to guide the boys headed into Kuta to watch the game and have a gamble with lady luck! Beginners today had some new faces to the group so some meeting and greeting was going on at breakfast before we loaded up two carloads and headed to Balangan beach. Yesterday the swell pulled through giving us some great clean 2 foot sets and we had our fingers crossed today would be the same. Unfortunately the swell was slightly smaller and with some heavy cloud coverage there was some strong winds picking up in the afternoon. The guys still had a great day and a few last session for some guys leaving us and some having there first session still very keen to go again tomorrow. Last minute check from the boys in Kuta and our mate Craig has won $25,000 on a $50 bet and they are now partying with Benji Weatherly! Homemade mei-goreng tonight by our mum-away-from-mum and camp cook Sani. Look at that smile! Isn’t she gorgeous!!
