Bukit Peninsula: Bali inspires!

Looking for an inspirational trip? Whether you’re a surfer or not, you can’t get much more inspirational than Bali, especially the Bukit Peninsula.

Home to the fascinating clifftop Uluwatu temple as well as perhaps the best beaches on the entire island of Bali, parts of the Bukit Peninsula are fast becoming playgrounds for the rich. But don’t let that deter you non millionaires out there. “The Bukit” as it’s known, is still home to plenty of backpacker-friendly places, including cheap cafés and guesthouses where you can lay your weary head for under $10 US (7 euros). If you’re in the mood for a bit more comfort and luxury, but still nowhere near the golf-playing, first class fare-paying, five star resort-staying level, there are many options to choose from, including some great surf lodges if you’re coming to the Bukit Peninsula to surf. If you are, you’ve chosen one of the best locations on Bali, one of the top surfing destinations in the world.

So how does Bukit Peninsula, Bali inspire?

Darren Robertson, one of Australia’s top chefs, says a barbecue on Dreamland beach, Bukit Peninsula, is his favorite food memory. From The Age:

It was dark but we could hear the sea. Then this guy came, I think his name was Eddie, Eddie’s Warung or something, and he just lit this fire … he had all this fresh fish, rice, sambal. That was pretty cool.

Swimwear designer Lisa Marie Fernandez has been richly inspired by Bali’s beaches, including those on the Bukit Peninsula. Check out her Bali travel diary on Style.com.

One American entrepreneur made “Bukit loads” of cash from an idea he had during a surfing holiday in Bali. He came up with a camera strap (and then camera) that surfers could wear strapped on to their wrists while surfing. Read all about his story in the Sydney Morning Herald.
