Some surf, some shop

Today we had our surf guides head off to Kuta for some surf training and first aid. A group headed to Balangan to surf for the day, with some beginners only taking their beach towel, awaiting tomorrows lesson with the boys. Balangan had nice 1 metre clean sets with the wind picking up in the afternoon blowing on shore, which made the waves a little messy. The guys surfed all day and were all smiles when they were picked up at 4pm this afternoon. Others surfed Padang Padang, most sets had just that little bit less power than you needed, however there were some great clean 2 metre sets every so often that peeled beautifully. By high tide the crowd had arrived and the beach was packed. Others headed into Kuta today for a spot of shopping. It is always such an adventure heading into Kuta, it’s another world away from the camp, and everybody is always so relieved to finally get home after a hectic Kuta day. A token souvenir item that seems to keep popping up in conversation is the wooden penis bottle opener. A great gift to bring back through customs! Swell is said to be picking up in the next few days with it really hitting on Friday (rumoured to be when the Rip Curl Pro contest is on- well like the promotion says “it’s on when it’s on!”)
